PROFILE
Anthea van Kopplen completed her Bachelor of Economics at the University of New England, NSW, majoring in Statistics and Marketing. The second degree, a Bachelor of Arts, Fashion achieved with Distinction, was received from RMIT University in 1999. Anthea received a scholarship for her Masters of Art from RMIT University in 2001 exploring the role of environmental design within the fashion design process.
Since 2002, her current PhD explores the integrated concept of poetics and sustainable design and the fashion design process. She has instructed studios and workshops in Fashion, Textiles, Industrial Design and online for undergraduates, post-graduates and industry. Anthea has lectured in Fashion Design and Industrial Design at RMIT University since 1998 where she teaches design theory and design practice.
Her leadership surrounding sustainable design thinking and the social, environmental and economic impacts of wearable product has lead to consulting opportunities in industries including education, the fashion and textile industry, the National Trust (National Costume Collection Sub-committee) and the Australian Merino industry. In 2004/5 Anthea worked as an Exhibitions Coordinator and Curator at the National Wool Museum in Geelong. 2006 brought new focus in the development of her independent design business ENVELOPE.
Recent exhibitions include L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2001, 2009 and 2010; State of Design Festival 2009 and 2010; Melbourne International Design Festival, 2008; How You Make It touring exhibition 2007-2009 sponsored by NETS and Craft Victoria; Sustainable Living Festival 1999 and 2002.
